A Little Focus

Composition zebra

I phoned it in today. Photography in the cold is, like most activities, less fun.

In a rush to take a photograph of something today, I started working on photographing this statue from my apartment. I'm working through the school of photography online, and today's lesson was on composition, discussing the rule of thirds, etc. I like centering the face of this statue because the statue is silly, but being centered feels more serious.

The most important realization I had from photos of the statue was how different composition techniques can be layered: all the pictures of the zebra head-on with its body directly behind the head were uninteresting, but positioning the head dead center and the body aligned with thirds is much better. I'll have to experiment more with that.
